Ainsley Erzen, a junior at Carlisle High in Iowa, won the girls 800-meter championship in a state-record 2:06.52 at The Outdoor Nationals, presented by Nike, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Erzen, who ran 2:09.79 in May to win the Iowa 3A state title, eclipsed the all-time mark of 2:07.18 achieved in 2016 by Joy Ripslinger of Davenport Assumption. She also became the first Iowa female athlete to win a national title in any outdoor track event, with only Kiana Phelps of Kingsley-Pierson securing a crown in the discus throw in 2016.
